Planet JJs MtG European Magic Series RCQ will start at 11:30 (store will be open from 11:00).
On a Wednesday evening Planet JJs hosts regular casual Commander Evening. The Commander format is all about picking your hero and building a deck around them. In this casual, multiplayer format, you choose a legendary creature to serve as your commander and build the rest of your deck around their colour identity and unique abilities. Players are only allowed one of each card in their deck, with the exception of basic lands, but they can use cards from throughout Magic’s history.
We welcome all levels of experience at Planet JJs, but if you have never played before and are wanting to learn the game, please contact us directly so we can arrange, and make sure, we have someone available to show you the basics to get you going! And if you want some homework to help you learn the wonders of Magic the Gathering you can check out – How To Play – on the official website!!
Planet JJs Geekery MtG Commander evenings run weekly, with the first hour dedicated to Trading, if you fancy it.
There are different formats of Draft but generally at Planet JJs we do Booster Draft:
Booster Draft is a format where players open card packs, then play one-on-one games on the spot! Each deck should have at least 40 cards and should last an average length for a game (about 20 minutes (ish)).
How to draft: First, players sit around a table. Each player then opens a booster pack and picks a single card without showing the other players. Each player then passes the remaining cards to the left, and continues drafting from the new cards they get from the player on their right. This continues until all of the cards in those packs have been distributed (drafted). Then each player opens a second pack, but this time, pass the pack to the right. After all those cards are drafted, you do the same with the third pack, passing to the left again. At the end, each player will have about 45 cards (along with any number of basic lands) which they can use to build a 40 card deck.

Prerelease is your first opportunity to get your hands on the latest Magic: The Gathering release and explore what the set has to offer!
Players crack open a Prerelease Pack, build a Sealed deck, and try out the set for the first time in a casual tournament (swiss style format, best of 3, number of rounds depending of number of players)
Magic Presents is a thematic event series run at various times throughout the year. Each iteration will feature new special rules that give players a different play experience than they can get anywhere else—and special rewards.
Magic Presents: Spring Flourishes is a booster draft with a special twist: each player will start the game with an emblem that provides them a gameplay bonus.
Magic Presents is a thematic event series run at various times throughout the year. Each iteration will feature new special rules that give players a different play experience than they can get anywhere else—and special rewards.
Magic Presents: Pride is a specialty Commander event with one added rule. Players will treat all eligible commanders as though they had the partner ability. This will allow players to add an additional commander to a deck they already have or use a never-before-seen combination of two commanders to helm a new deck. Commanders that already have abilities like partner won’t let players have more than two commanders at this event! Remember that the extra commander still counts toward the 100 cards in their deck.
