What Is Prerelease?
Prerelease celebrates the launch of a new set and is your players' first opportunity to explore what the set has to offer. Players open a Prerelease Pack, build a 40-card Sealed deck, and play with the set for the first time in a casual and fun environment.
On a Wednesday evening Planet JJs hosts regular casual Commander Evening. The Commander format is all about picking your hero and building a deck around them. In this casual, multiplayer format, you choose a legendary creature to serve as your commander and build the rest of your deck around their colour identity and unique abilities. Players are only allowed one of each card in their deck, with the exception of basic lands, but they can use cards from throughout Magic’s history.
We welcome all levels of experience at Planet JJs, but if you have never played before and are wanting to learn the game, please contact us directly so we can arrange, and make sure, we have someone available to show you the basics to get you going! And if you want some homework to help you learn the wonders of Magic the Gathering you can check out – How To Play – on the official website!!
Planet JJs Geekery MtG Commander evenings run weekly, with the first hour dedicated to Trading, if you fancy it.
There are different formats of Draft but generally at Planet JJs we do Booster Draft:
Booster Draft is a format where players open card packs, then play one-on-one games on the spot! Each deck should have at least 40 cards and should last an average length for a game (about 20 minutes (ish)).
How to draft: First, players sit around a table. Each player then opens a booster pack and picks a single card without showing the other players. Each player then passes the remaining cards to the left, and continues drafting from the new cards they get from the player on their right. This continues until all of the cards in those packs have been distributed (drafted). Then each player opens a second pack, but this time, pass the pack to the right. After all those cards are drafted, you do the same with the third pack, passing to the left again. At the end, each player will have about 45 cards (along with any number of basic lands) which they can use to build a 40 card deck.
Characters from all over the history of One Piece, including the anime, manga, and movies, are featured in the game, and there are even cards inspired by famous scenes from all of them!
Collecting cards with various characters and illustrations is of course a lot of fun, but it's not the only way to have fun!
Once you have collected all the cards, you can experience the mighty battles between pirates!

Well this might be for you, come along and learn the basics of how it works and how to build pokemon in the competitive space.
For any worried there will be some pokemon provided on the day to create your teams, these can be traded either through Scarlet/Violet or through Home. Home can be set up for free if you don't already have this and trading through Home can only be done on the mobile app (I know very useful -.-)
Due to the time available for this it would be more beneficial and will allow a quicker route into battling if you have completed the tutorial section of Pokemon Champions before attending, this should take around 20 minutes to get through to the main menu, you should also get 10,000 VP for completing this which will be big in helping you train up your teams.
There are also other optional battle tutorials you can do before this located in the 'Train' menu which will give you some further information but won't be completely necessary for you to attend and play.
There will be space for 4 Skirmish Sessions, and in store we have a selection of scenery, scatter and some models that can be used for your session, we do have some Kill Team Boards, Blood Bowl Pitch, and a couple of 3ft x 3ft Battle Maps.
Each player should book in use the button below - It is up to the players to arrange their own Skirmish Session with others, if you book in and turn up without arranging a Skirmish Session you will not be able to play.
All you need to do is bring along your models/minis (ideally primed), brushes, tools, and paints (there will be a selection of some basic paints available for all to share) then sit back paint your models.
Obviously if you book in to play we cannot guarantee that there will be someone who wants to play the same TCG, so get a friend to book in too then there is nothing to worry about!
We are also asking for people to volunteer to become a sort of unofficial Ambassador for their TCG, so if someone is interested in learning more or even playing that TCG they have someone to go too during the event.
You can attend the whole event, part of the event, or come and go during the event it’s very flexible, spaces will be limited, booking will be essential!
This is very exciting for all TCG Players! Every Friday between 12:00 and 17:00 you can book in and play any TCG free of charge!! All we ask is to make sure you book in and maybe when you here you buy a drink...
Obviously if you book in to play we cannot guarantee that there will be someone who wants to play the same TCG, so get a friend to book in too then there is nothing to worry about!
Once booked in you can just come along, meet like-minded people and play a game from our collection (or a game brought in by someone) with others. The whole idea is for people to mix and play games, so be prepared to play games with some great people and make new friends.
How does it all work? Well, if you are interested and want to come along use the booking option below - book as early as possible as spaces are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served bases.
If you would like to bring in a game or would like to choose a game from our GameDex please email us with details at tog@planetjjs.co.uk before the Tuesday of TOG week you are booked in for!
On the Tuesday (ish) before the TOG night - you have booked for - we will inform all attendees which games will be available on the night - these games may come from our GameDex collection or maybe a game being brought in by someone for the night. Once we have announced the games you are then able to request being put on a specific game, subject to availability - some games can prove very popular!!

Really good store

Popped in to check out the retail section and have a nosey at the painting event. Great range! Much more varied than other gaming stores in the area representing a few brands and not just games workshop. Also enjoyed the cakes!

This is hands down one of the best gaming shops in the country. They’ve got everything you could ever need for your TCG and TTRPG adventures, but what really sets them apart is the community they’ve built. Everyone, from the staff to the regulars, is welcoming, friendly, and passionate about the hobby. Jed, the owner, always goes above and beyond to help with anything you need. Whether you’re looking for products, a place to play, or a great community to be part of, this is the spot. And don’t leave without trying the heavenly cakes... they’re worth the trip alone!
